Raising Money for NYC Hospital Workers
We had been feeling a bit helpless through all this covid-19 madness, trapped at home in our wonderful but currently very lonely city. After almost a month of sitting idle, doing nothing to help but stay at home, we wanted to do more for those who are risking their lives every day to save ours. We decided we needed to do something for our NYC hospital workers, and, since we love food so much, we figured we could support local restaurants and our hospital workers by donating meals to them!
Our First Donation
Last week, we donated our first meal to Mount Sinai West (where our two boys were born 5 and 8 years ago). We connected with a PA there, who helped us coordinate the delivery of meals from Zucker’s Bagels (our favorite UWS bagel spot) to a team 30 front line workers.
Everyone was so grateful, and it made us feel so good to be able to help, even if it was in such a small way. The text we received after 2pm from the PA read: “Thank you sooo much for all of this food!!! You went above and beyond!!! Everyone is enjoying and asking me to make sure I tell you thank you from them!!! We all really appreciate it! A lot of us, including myself, haven’t eaten yet today so this made our day! You brought a lot of joy to the entire staff!!! I can’t thank you enough!”
Continuing to Spread the Love to the Healthcare Workers in NYC
After such a positive response, how could we not do this again!?! So, we started telling some of our friends, and within just a few hours, we raised over $650. It seems everyone wants to do some good these days and help however they can, so we decided to start a Go Fund Me page. In less than a week, we raised over $7,000 to feed our amazing hospital workers throughout the NYC, supporting restaurants like Mighty Bowl Souvlaki GR Kouzina, and Barcha.
So far, we have fed about 100 people at various ICUs and ERs. We have 100 more meals scheduled to be delivered this week to Elmhurst Hospital and the Allen Hospital and are working hard to find more restaurants and contacts at hospitals to deliver more meals throughout NYC. We will keep donating meals and supporting local restaurants until we run out of money.
As real estate brokers, we have very little to do these days, and we are really happy to be filling our time helping our amazing city and those keeping it going. We will continue to cheer from our windows for first responders every night at 7pm with our neighbors. We wish we could do more.
If you’d like to help support our effort, please feel free to donate here on our GoFundMe page, or, to avoid their 2.9% fees, Venmo Dan @Dan-Gotlieb.
If you know people on the front lines (or if you are one of those people on the front lines), please let us know, and we will try to coordinate a meal delivery to them. If you have a favorite restaurant that is open and delivering to hospitals, or you own a restaurant, let us know, so we can support it! We will post updates on our Go Fund Me page and on Instagram and Facebook about what we’re delivering where. Please follow us @digsrealty.
Thank you to all of you for your donations and help!
