A Rare SoHo Loft of Exceptional Scale and Authenticity

Authentic SoHo lofts of this scale are increasingly rare. Offered for sale for the first time in more than 30 years, this extraordinary three-bedroom, three-bathroom residence is a singular expression of downtown Manhattan living, defined by volume, original architectural detail, and an authenticity that cannot be recreated.

The sense of scale is immediately apparent. Soaring 10’5″ ceilings rise above restored cast-iron columns, original maple hardwood floors, and ten oversized double windows, each more than seven feet tall. Overlooking Crosby Street, the windows draw natural light across the loft while reinforcing the scale and industrial elegance that distinguish great SoHo residences.

At approximately 40 feet by 26 feet, the great room is exceptional even by loft standards. Expansive yet beautifully composed, it offers extraordinary freedom for living, dining, entertaining, and art. Few residences provide this degree of openness without sacrificing warmth; here, the original structure gives the room rhythm, texture, and a sense of authenticity that is increasingly difficult to find.

The home’s three-bedroom layout is thoughtfully arranged around two generous primary suites, each with an en-suite bath and walk-in closet. The interior third bedroom features a full wall of closets and is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing it to function as a private bedroom or open more fluidly to the great room. A third full bath conveniently serves guests.

The chef’s kitchen is seamlessly integrated into the loft, with abundant cabinetry and a substantial center island that serves as an intimate gathering place. Behind the kitchen, a large utility and storage room adds a level of practicality rarely found in historic lofts, with a full-size washer, vented dryer, utility sink, and extensive storage. Individually zoned mini-split air conditioning completes the residence.

284 Lafayette Street is an intimate 20-unit loft cooperative, ideally positioned at the convergence of SoHo, NoHo, and Nolita. The pet-friendly building offers keyed-elevator access, smartphone-enabled video security, a dedicated superintendent, and private storage. Outside, some of the city’s most celebrated restaurants, designer boutiques, galleries, cafés, and fitness studios are just moments away, with convenient access to the B/D/F/M/6/R/W trains. Few locations offer such immediate access to downtown Manhattan’s culture, energy, and enduring appeal.
