The grandeur of Romanesque Revival architecture takes on an entirely new life in this remarkable Downtown duplex penthouse. Across two dramatic levels, soaring proportions, original stained glass, exposed timber beams, and contemporary design come together to create a home with an unmistakable sense of history and individuality.

Upstairs, 20-foot wood-clad ceilings rise above expansive living and entertaining spaces, where historic details meet an industrial edge of exposed ductwork, steel, and glass. Stained-glass windows appear throughout the residence, transforming remnants of the former church into colorful architectural focal points.

At the heart of the upper level, an open chef’s kitchen with graphic tilework and a generous island flows into the living area and out to a 500-square-foot private terrace. Complete with an outdoor kitchen and ample room for dining and lounging, the terrace extends the home beneath the open sky.

The lower level offers two expansive bedroom suites with a media room between them, which can be converted into a third bedroom, carrying the home’s singular character into more intimate spaces. Stained glass, rich finishes, and unexpected decorative details continue throughout, while the flexible proportions leave room for bedrooms, creative spaces, or additional living areas.

Originally built in 1860 as the Washington Square Methodist Church, known as the Peace Church, Novare was transformed in 2006 into an intimate condominium of just eight residences. At the meeting point of Greenwich Village, the West Village, and SoHo, the home offers a rare combination of architectural history, private outdoor space, and unmistakably Downtown living.
