12A MONROE Street, New York City, NY 11238

Make yourself at home in this quintessential two-family townhouse (easily used as a one-family if you prefer), situated on the cusp of Clinton Hill and Bed Stuy, on a treelined one-way street that is also uniquely quiet with almost no traffic at all hours of the day. Renovated thoughtfully with an eye towards both style and function, this historic gem, one of the oldest in the neighborhood, has retained the many original period details so coveted in Brooklyn, yet has also been updated and modernized to please the most discerning of 21st century buyers, including a Fujitsu split AC system throughout.

Enter up the stoop into the parlor floor where you will be greeted by a spacious and light-filled living room. Restored wooden and glass entry doors, plaster moldings, plantation shutters, a marble mantle, and wood floors are just some of the period details that will delight you at every turn. Bask in the light that streams in from the massive windows facing tree-lined Monroe Street, or move towards the middle of the parlor where you’ll find a smartly-designed powder room adjacent to the sculptural center staircase.

Head to the back parlor where a modern chef’s kitchen offers a wall of sliding glass doors leading out onto the tranquil garden and deck. A Fisher & Paykel French door fridge, GE stainless steel range and oven, and expansive Caesarstone countertops await. Find a place for everything with extensive storage space, via both stylish open shelving, and white lacquer cabinetry. A second decorative marble mantelpiece acts as the centerpiece to this lovely room. The outdoor space includes a deck off the kitchen with stairs leading down into an exceptionally lush and deep garden. Landscaped carefully with an eye for preserving the cascading trees, and handsome fencing that creates privacy. The perfect setting for hosting drinks, dinners, and parties.

Ascend the stairs to the second floor where two sunny and spacious bedrooms await. Both are rich in historic detail and share a hall bath. Luxuriate in the Carrara marble hex and subway tiled walls and floor, a deep tub, and an ample marble-topped vanity. The center staircase creates incredible scale in every room in the house, allowing you to enjoy the full width of the house. Don’t miss the convenient fully vented washer and dryer located on this floor as well.

The top floor is home to a lavish primary suite with treetop views, exposed beams and brick, and multiple closets. Enjoy an ensuite bath with Carrara and black mosaic tiles, a double vanity, a glass-enclosed shower with bench, and a tub with a view. Also on this floor is an extra room in the front which would make a perfect dressing room, home office, nursery or extra bedroom. A skylight at the top of the stairs allows sunlight to stream through the center of the home from top to bottom.
Descend down your beautifully-restored staircase to the garden level, which has a wall of wainscoting, a large bedroom in the back, a full bath with hex marble wall and floor tile, a marble-topped vanity, and a front room perfect for a guest bedroom or home office that has all the same historic charms as the rooms upstairs. A full basement with extensive storage space finishes off the package.

This timeless and homey townhouse is on a picturesque and pin-drop quiet block near the C, S, and G trains, and is convenient to the many stores, restaurants, shops and schools, including the Waldorf school around the corner, that make this area of Brooklyn so beloved to those who call it home. Speedy Romeos, Emily, Locanda Vini and Olii, Choice Market, and the Pratt Institute Sculpture garden are just some of the delights nearby. Low taxes too.
