870 President Street, New York City, NY 11215

Rarely do you have the opportunity to take a 30-foot-wide brownstone and turn it into your dream home. This is that moment! 870 President Street is a grand, historic, extra-wide home, located on a prime, tree-lined street in Park Slope. The Romanesque Revival facade gives the home a welcoming first impression. A low stoop leads to an arched entry on carved brackets, and a three-story bay rises above it in rough-cut stone and checkerboard masonry; a small framed stained-glass window on the second floor punctuates it, delivering an eclectic yet balanced aesthetic that commands the streetscape. PARLOR FLOOR: Through the double glass doors, the vestibule opens into a gallery foyer that is filled with original details: English encaustic tile floors with mosaic borders, Lincrusta wall coverings, a large fireplace, and a winding center staircase with hand-carved banisters. Off the hall, the formal parlors carry intricate woodwork, carved mantels, and wainscoting throughout. The rooms are generous and have high ceilings. This level currently holds a front parlor, a middle parlor, a formal dining room, a full bath, and excellent closets, as well as the main kitchen, which occupies a light-filled rear extension spanning over 24 feet, with windows on three sides opening directly to the small deck, with stairs leading down to the garden. SECOND FLOOR: A skylit staircase leads up to a spacious living room, two bedrooms, a full bath, and an eat-in kitchen that walks directly out to the roof terrace and its pergola, an open-air room above the treetops. THIRD FLOOR: Three generously proportioned bedrooms, a full bath, extensive closet space, a windowed laundry room, and a dedicated office suite connected to the rear bedroom. BASEMENT: The windowed basement, with ceilings of roughly 8’8″, houses the mechanicals and multiple storage areas and can easily be converted to a gym, workshop, or studio. Set in prime North Slope, this location places Brooklyn’s cultural center at your doorstep, including the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Brooklyn Museum, the Public Library, the Prospect Park Zoo, and the Grand Army Plaza farmers market, with the whole of Prospect Park one block away and Seventh Avenue’s dining and shops just around the corner. The house was built in 1888 by Charles F. Burckett, a prolific Park Slope architect and builder. With historic details that are impeccably maintained, 870 President Street preserves 138 years of authentic character, offering an irreplaceable combination of scale, light and location. Bring your architect and make your dream come to life!
