The historic Ludlow-Parish House was originally built as two adjoining five-story townhouses at 6 and 8 East 76th Street by Eleanor Roosevelt’s grandparents, the Ludlow and Parish families. Eleanor’s parents, Anna Hall Roosevelt and Elliott Roosevelt, lived at No. 8, while her grandparents resided at No. 6.The house is best known as the site of the celebrated 1905 wedding of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt, where the famous ceremony adorned with 1, 000 roses took place. Eleanor was just 20 years old, and Franklin was 23. He would later become the 32nd President of the United States and serve an unprecedented four terms-the longest presidential tenure in American history.Adding even greater historical significance, then-President Theodore Roosevelt, Eleanor’s uncle and the 26th President of the United States, gave the bride away during the wedding ceremony. Few residences can claim a connection to two U.S. presidents, making this home truly one of a kind.

Architecturally, the property is an exceptional Upper East Side treasure, ideally situated between Fifth and Madison Avenues. Today, 6 East 76th Street has been configured into five residences, one on each floor.
