217 Dean Street, New York City, NY 11217

Built in 1852 by John Doherty and Michael Murray, 217 Dean Street is a quintessential Brooklyn brownstone in the heart of Boerum Hill’s historic landmark district. This light-filled 21-foot wide townhouse comprises four stories plus a full cellar and includes an open and verdant backyard. Coming home to 217 Dean Street you’ll ascend a tall brownstone stoop to the parlor floor, where the ceilings soar and south facing double-height windows bring sunlight deep into the house throughout the day. The original newel post and staircase harken back to the house’s origins as an elegant single-family home designed for entertaining and easeful living. Upstairs you’ll find five bedrooms, two bathrooms, and two original fireplace mantels, one crafted from marble and the other slate. On the garden level, the front room is framed by exposed brick and ceiling joists and overlooks the front garden, which comes alive with blooms much of the year. At the rear, the kitchen steps out to a sunny and leafy backyard that feels worlds away from the bustle of Brooklyn — a peaceful retreat for entertaining, barbecuing, or unwinding at the end of the day. 217 Dean Street sits on a quiet tree-lined block at the center of the Brownstone neighborhoods that have made Brooklyn famous. The renowned restaurants, boutiques, parks, and other amenities of Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Fort Greene and Park Slope are all close by. Several subway lines are just a few blocks away for a quick commute to Manhattan and anywhere in the city. Bring your architect and contractor to this classic Boerum Hill townhouse and make it the backdrop for your next chapter in Brooklyn.
