THE REMARKABLE IRVING BERLIN PENTHOUSE

FROM SUNRISE TO SUNSET, A GLORIOUS VIEW
From this penthouse you can watch the sunrise from the wide planted terrace to the east at the beginning of the day and then see it set at the end of the day at the west side of the terrace. And all day long tall glass sliding doors open for an even closer look at the endless sky and ever-changing views of the swirling currents of the East River.

THE PENTHOUSE
Located on the top two levels of a beautifully situated Emory Roth cooperative at East End Avenue and East 86th Street, the UPPER ENTERTAINING LEVEL is surrounded by a large planted terrace facing east, south, and west. The living room has a wood burning fireplace and floor to ceiling sliding doors enabling easy access for indoor/outdoor living. The open formal dining room also has views of the East River. The renovated kitchen is enhanced by a beautiful eating area with a glass solarium and doors to the west section of the terrace. There is also a staff room and full bath.

The LOWER LEVEL
The lower level has a primary bedroom suite spanning 33 feet which includes a wood burning fireplace, a breakfast bar, a large dressing room, and a spacious well designed bathroom. It is a perfect place to capture the morning sun.

There is an additional den/ bedroom and two additional bedrooms with baths en-suite, one of which is a perfect corner room facing south and west.

CARL SCHURZ PARK
The penthouse view also includes the lush greenery of Carl Schurz Park. This almost 15 acre site has long been valued for its strategic location overlooking the turbulent waters of the Hellgate at this bend in the East River. In 1902, illustrious landscape architect Calvert Vaux joined others to create a new landscape design for the park. Today it is deemed to be one of the most exquisite small urban parks in all of Manhattan.

GRACIE MANSION
Built by Archibald Gracie in 1799, Gracie mansion is one of the oldest surviving wood structures in Manhattan. Robert Moses convinced city authorities to designate the house as the official residence of the mayor and in 1942 Fiorello La Guardia and his family moved in, describing it as New York’s “little White House “. Just northwest of Gracie Mansion John Jacob Astor also had a country estate.

Carl Schurz Park and Gracie Mansion both add to the beauty of the view from this penthouse and to the bucolic environment below.

One could easily imagine that a creative talent like Irving Berlin would be drawn to the beauty of this particular penthouse.
