Old Westbury
The Village of Old Westbury is located on the North Shore of Long Island in Nassau County. It is considered to be one of the wealthiest suburbs in the United States and has been home to many famous family estates, including the Vanderbilts, the Whitneys and the Du Ponts. There are no commercial areas in the village, but there are several colleges on land that used to be part of estates, including SUNY Old Westbury and NY Tech. Old Westbury has multiple country clubs, golf courses, a polo club and 30 miles of horse trails. Three public school districts serve Old Westbury: Jericho, East Williston and Westbury. Real estate in Old Westbury is very expensive and property taxes are quite high. Its cheapest homes cost almost a million dollars. There are no co-ops or condos.
Commute to Penn Station via LIRR
Old Westbury does not have its own LIRR station. Most commuters go to the Westbury LIRR station for a 41+ minute train ride to Penn Station.
Fun Facts
The Northern State Parkway was detoured 5 miles because the wealthy landowners didn’t want the Parkway breaking up their estates or being an eyesore near their land.
